Squad 43 Extricates One on I-476 S/B

Early this morning as heavy rainfall and storms rolled through the area, the volunteers of the Plymouth Fire Company No. 1 (Montco 43) were dispatched at 02:07 hours to Mile marker 19.2 S/B on Route I-476 for a vehicle accident with reported injuries. Initial 911 callers reported a tractor trailer had left the roadway colliding into the trees and over the guardrail.

Chief 43 responded just after dispatch and was updated with reports of the driver of the tractor trailer was entrapped. The incident was then upgraded to an Accident with entrapment.

Chief 43 arrived confirming the driver to be confined in the cab with trees and brush on top of and pressed into the driver's compartment. Squad 43 with a crew of 3 arrived and went into service with saws and spreaders to clear debris and pop the driver's side door open freeing the confined operator.

Command marked the rescue complete within 10 minutes and the operator was transferred to the care of awaiting EMS. Squirt 43 and Traffic 43 responded and assisted with traffic control and lane blocking. The incident was turned over to PA State Police and station 43 was clear and available just after 02:30 hours.
